Poster Presentations & Scholarships for Graduate and Undergraduate Students
The New York Institute of Food Technologists (NYIFT) is proud to announce its 2018-2019 Students Awards Program. NYIFT with its Central New Jersey subsection will again sponsor scholarship awards at the section level and through the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). In addition, a Poster Competition will be held in conjunction with Student Night. These awards represent the NYIFT’s commitment to the growth of up and coming Food Scientists. These programs are outlined below:
The NYIFT sponsors one Graduate ($1,500) and two Undergraduate ($1,000 each) IFT Scholarships. Information for these scholarships can be found at www.ift.org
SCHOLARSHIP FOR A DEPENDENT OF NYIFT MEMBER
The NYIFT awards one scholarship to a dependent of an NYIFT or CNJIFT member. Applications must be post-marked by the deadline of November 30, 2018. Download Dependent Scholarship Application
The NYIFT Scholarship Program will seek to award five (5) Graduate Scholarships at $1,500 each and two (2) Undergraduate Scholarships at $1,000 each.

January 11, 2019 FILING DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!
Completed applications are to be converted to PDF and sent to Ms. Debbie Koch (firstname.lastname@example.org), Room 107, Food Science Bldg., Rutgers University, no later than January 11, 2019 . Applications filed after the deadline will not be considered.

January 25, 2019 Scholarship Interviews and Judging
February 1, 2019 Alternate date for Scholarship Interviews and Judging (contingent on weather)
To be eligible for one of these scholarships:
- The candidate must be a student at the time of the application
- Candidate must have paid his/her IFT and NY Section membership dues for that year
- Candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or better
- Candidate must be majoring or completing courses in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, Culinology, or Culinary Arts at a college or higher level.
- Candidate must be enrolled in an IFT accredited Food Science Program
- Candidate applying for the Dependent Scholarship must have a parent who is an IFT and NYIFT Member
The Scholarships are awarded to those academically qualified students who are selected by the Awards Committee following personal interviews. Awards will be presented at “Student Night” at the February 13, 2019 meeting, and recipients attend as guests of NYIFT.
Previous recipients are encouraged to continue their participation.
As part of the “Student Night” Program, interested students are encouraged to present their research. Poster presentations will be judged by the Awards Committee prior to Student Night. Monetary awards ($500 – first place, $300 – secondary place and $200 – third place) will be presented to the top three presenters at the Student Night Meeting on February 13, 2019. All students participating in the Poster presentation at the February meeting are invited to attend the dinner that follows free of charge.

February 13, 2019 Poster Judging (afternoon before dinner meeting)
All reasonable material costs associated with preparation of the posters will be borne by the NYIFT. Reimbursement of expenses will be handled through the Food Science Club. Receipts for poster supplies are required.

These scholarships are only a small part of what the NYIFT and its Central New Jersey subsection have to offer. To gain a better understanding about the Food Industry and to meet professionals involved in the industry, all you have to do is to attend the monthly meetings. The cost to you is your time and a nominal (subsidized) cost for your meal. The rewards are truly immeasurable! We hope to see you at meetings.
